I have always been open to the sixth sense, it runs on the maternal side of my family. My nanny called it ‘the knowing’ and it is something I’ve always been aware of. I like to call my gift ‘the shine’ after the Stephen King book ‘The Shining.’ When I was a small child my nanny and I were able to hold conversations in our minds, telepathically, without even opening our mouths.

She often talked about having dreams and them coming true. My nanny was very open about ‘the knowing’ and it was through her that I acknowledged that I have something special. In Stephens King’s book he wrote that ‘the knowing’ or ‘the shine’ were “People who shine can sometimes see things that are gonna’ happen, and I think sometimes they can see things that did happen. But they’re just like pictures in a book.” For me, I get a lot of déjà vu, warning dreams, and prophetic dreams of what’s to come to pass whether that be people or places.

As a medium, I can also feel, hear and see spirit (souls passed over). I would describe myself as empathic as I’m sensitive to energies whether it’s from people or places. I feel very deeply.
Because of my Catholic upbringing, I ignored my gift for a short while viewing it as something negative. The more I ignored my gift the more it became prominent. It wasn’t until I turned 18 and out in the world that I started to accept my shine and through a growing acceptance, I began to open up to messages being delivered to me.

When I was school, at one point, I read the palms of other students. I started to get nervous when predictions started happening and my mother told me not to read palms anymore, as I was too young to understand the repercussions. However, at 18 I bought my first tarot deck and began learning the art of tarot. I joined tarot groups and classes. Through tarot and meeting likeminded people, I realized that I wanted to share my gift with the world. Mediumship was something that I started to learn and develop in my 20’s. In terms of developing my gift, I looked for mentors to guide me on my journey and show me the right path.

I think that most prominent memory of my gift becoming apparent to me was when my childhood friend died. She was only 27 when she died. On the Monday I started to get a sinking feeling that she was ill and would end up in hospital. The feeling deep in my gut wouldn’t go away. On the Wednesday I had a vision of her dressed in white and lying in a hospital bed. I was being given messages about her friends, family and her life. I didn’t think much of it until I went to bed Thursday night and I woke to the sound of my name being called out loud. The voice was familiar to me. I turned on the light and went back to sleep. I went to bed early that night which is unusual for me.

The Friday morning I woke up early and heard a calm voice inside me say ‘check your email.’ I opened my email to see a message from her boyfriend saying she had passed away Thursday night and her cremation was Friday afternoon. I was in total shock. So the only thing I could think to do was ask for a physical sign from my friend about her passing. Being a medium I heard a calm internal voice say to me to turn on the TV. I immediately turned on the TV without thinking about a channel. When I turned on the TV the first thing that came on was This Morning and the first show was interviewing a well- known medium. That was the sign I needed.

Having ‘the knowing’ or ‘the shine’ is something I’m passionate about and want to share with the world. Everybody is intuitive but some ‘shine’ more than others. My life up to date has been studying tarot and mediumship, and giving readings to friends and clients. I think it’s important to have spirituality in your life, to believe in something greater than our human understanding and experience the divinity of the universe. To quote Pierre Teilhard de Chardin “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
