Mediumship is the ability to mediate communication between spirits of the dead (spirit world) and living human beings. Practitioners are known as "mediums" or "spiritual mediums". I am a spiritual medium which means that I can listen to and relay messages from spirits. I communicate with spirits through telepathy. As a spiritual medium I "hear" (clairaudience), "see" (clairvoyance), and/or feel (clairsentience) messages from spirits.

From a young age I was aware of spirit and could communicate with spirit world. Being connected to spirit runs on the maternal side of my family. My nanny called it ‘The Knowing.’ This knowing included experiences such as déjà vu, prophetic dreams, knowing a future outcome and feeling/ hearing/ seeing spirit. I recall one vivid memory regarding my nanny and her passing. My mother, nanny and I were in her kitchen, I was about five at the time. She asked us, that if she passed, what sign she would give us to let us know she had passed over, as a comfort.

I shouted out a butterfly. About two weeks later my nanny passed. My mother and I were the last people in the church and we were near her coffin. As we went to look at the flowers on the coffin a butterfly emerged. But that wasn’t the first sign. A few days later my family were cleaning her bedroom. As my grandfather pulled back the bed covers there was a butterfly. That was the second sign but it was the sign we all needed to know that she had passed over to spirit world and was in a happy place. It brought a lot of comfort and healing. This was my first experience into spiritual mediumship.

They say that mediums can be psychic, but not all psychics are mediums. I don’t call myself a psychic, but I am a spiritual medium. To a certain extent everyone is intuitive, with learning and development anyone can become a spiritual medium. But it takes study, dedication and hard work to be a professional spiritual medium. The important component being ‘spiritual’ to begin with.

Regarding my development as a spiritual medium, I first started attending mediumship classes with Angels Love Dublin every Wednesday evening. Angels Love is a positive, friendly and supportive place to learn about mediumship. I remember my first class there, I was very nervous but over time I learned to trust my mediumship ability and embrace spirit. Fast forward a few years later, I studied the advanced mediumship on how to be a professional medium with Angels Love, through my mentors Christine and Orla.

It was an amazing experience and they shared their knowledge, support and experiences with me so I could be an experienced and professional spiritual medium. I learned so much about connecting with spirit and how to deliver spirit messages to clients through boundaries, empathy and love. I also met some great people through Angels Love and I especially gained personal development. Mediumship is a gift to be shared and it’s a humbling experience delivering messages to clients from their loved ones passed over in spirit world. From this course, I have given mediumship readings to many clients, passing on messages of love, guidance, support and evidence of spirit world.

A mediumship reading is about forming loving connections to bring about closure and showing proof of afterlife, that physical death isn’t an ending but proof of continuity. When coming to me for a mediumship reading, I act as the middle man between the client and the loved one in spirit world. But as I always to say to clients before having a reading with me, come with an open mind and be willing to accept whatever spirit loved one steps forward. There are times as a spiritual medium that I am not in control of what spirit loved one will step forward and communicate.

As a spiritual medium, reading for my clients, I will try provide comfort, closure and above all else, a healing process. Sometimes going for a mediumship reading can bring about emotions and can be uncomfortable, however I try create an atmosphere for you to be comfortable in a holistic centre.

Loved ones in spirit world are in a happy place and they guide and help you in everyday life, through the ways that spirit can. For example, like my story above, a butterfly. When coming for a reading with me, I ask spirit to step forward and that I am ready to communicate. I then ask spirit to make their presence known. I will ask spirit for validation and signs that they are present. Spirit will communicate to their loved ones through specific experiences, emotions and memories, and always with a loving message so that the client knows that this is for them.

To quote Anthon St. Maarten about getting a mediumship reading “Mediumship channels guidance from those who have gone before, not only for the sake of those who are here, but also for those yet to come.”

How my mediumship works is that I firstly call in my spirit guides for love, protection and support for both the client and myself. I then start sensing and feeling things, I see spirit and images like a film projector in my mind. I close my eyes and connect to spirit to experience this film reel. I will also feel and experience how the person passed, and I can hear them giving me messages. Sometimes the images can be symbolical and although cryptic to one person, to the client, this can have a relevant meaning. Loved ones passed over are always eager to connect so that as a medium, I can deliver messages of love and support to their loved one in a reading with me.
